Amsterdam for couples is perfect not only for your first trip together, but also for Valentine's Day or even a honeymoon.
Let's take a look at some of the things you can do there together.
Amsterdam as a couple: article summary
Amsterdam as a couple: boat trip
Imagine sitting on a slow boat and cruising through Amsterdam's narrow canals, with a view of the narrow houses. It's even better if it's after sunset and the decks are lit up with pretty lights.
A boat trip on the Amsterdam canals will feel like a modern-day fairy tale in which you're the star. It doesn't get more romantic than that. It's one of the best things to do on a couple's vacation in Amsterdam.
Romantic stroll in the Jordaan
I strongly advise you not to miss a walk through the Jordaan.
The Jordaan is one of my favorite neighborhoods in Amsterdam, and you can also spend a long time there during your visit. It's quiet, peaceful and pretty. Of course, there are canals and bridges, but hardly any noisy tourists.
You can take a stroll as a couple and discover the pretty streets this district has to offer. What better way to enjoy a romantic stroll a quiet, trendy place.
Sit on a bench facing the canals
Sitting on a bench and sharing a conversation with your other half overlooking the canals in Amsterdam is one of the most beautiful things to do in the city. You can spend an intimate moment with your other half and discover their thoughts.
Go to the supermarket, buy a drink or two, maybe grab something to nibble on and find a bench in a quiet neighborhood like Jordaan. Sit down, look out over the water and enjoy each other's company as you share a few tender moments.
Amsterdam as a couple: going to the beach at Pllek
Amsterdam-Noord is the city's trendy district, and Pllek is the place to be in Noord. Take the free ferry from Amsterdam Central to Noord. Pllek is right next to NDSM In Werf, you can take a look at the art installations.
Now, it's not just for artists, NDSM Werf is super interesting and it's absolutely free. You can wander inside and explore this contemporary art exhibition before settling in. to enjoy an evening drink on the beach.
Once you've finished with NDSM Werf, head to Pllek and watch the sunset here while sipping your drink by the beach. As the sun sets, the pretty lights glow while the sky darkens. It's a a very romantic atmosphere!
The butterfly garden at Hortus Botanicus
For a different experience from canals, bridges and narrow houses, go to Hortus botanicus. You can't miss this place, especially as a couple!
Hortus Botanicus is a botanical garden with several thematic sections. It's a breath of fresh air in the middle of Amsterdam's hustle and bustle. You can enter Hortus Botanicus free of charge with the map I Amsterdam. What's more, there's no need to reserve a slot.
Picnic in one of Amsterdam's parks
Did you know that Amsterdam has many public parks? Grab a blanket, some cushions, a bottle of wine and maybe some of those waffles Amsterdam is famous for.
Meet at Oostpark or Vondelpark and pack your picnic. I prefer Oostpark because it's a bit more discreet than Vondelpark, but they're both great. Vondelpark is right next to the museum district.
If you're in Amsterdam at the weekend in summer, keep an eye out for the free open-air theater held in Vondelpark on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Depending on how empty or busy the parks are, or the time of day you visit, this can become one of Amsterdam's most romantic places for you.
Amsterdam as a couple: try ice skating in winter
Winter is very special, because there are beautiful Christmas markets and if you're lucky enough to visit Amsterdam when it's really cold, you can go ice-skating.
There's something super romantic about the ice skating. The time you spend together on an ice rink is the ultimate romantic rendezvous.
You don't need to know how to skate, just hold hands and try not to fall. Most likely, one of you will trip and the other will be there to prevent you from falling.
When the weather dips well below freezing, the area of the museum district opposite the Rijksmuseum is transformed into a skating rink. What a enjoy a couple's outing even in the coldest seasons.
Visiting Amsterdam as a couple is an experience you should have at least once in your life. You can share a pleasant visit with your other half in a quiet, peaceful and romantic town.
