On a trip to Amsterdam, you'll probably want to see the must-see sites.
Today, I'm going to tell you all about them!
Amsterdam must-sees: article summary
Amsterdam must-sees: brunch at Café Georgette
PC Hooftstraat is a popular shopping street lined with every imaginable designer boutique. On this street you'll find Cafe Georgette, one of my favorite places in all of Amsterdam.
Café Georgette has only been around for a few years. It's a Parisian-themed café, serving breakfast, lunch and delicious coffees and pastries.
Once you have done this, go to the Rijksmuseumthe Van Gogh museum and the Vondelparkall just a few steps from Café Georgette! These are also very popular exhibitions, and I recommend to buy your tickets in advance.
A boat cruise on the canal
You can't go to Amsterdam without seeing the city from the canals! Did you know that Amsterdam has over 100 km of canals? The city is made up of 90 islands and 1,500 bridges.
Amsterdam's canal district designed in the late 16th century and built in the 17th century. The original idea was for water management and defense, eventually becoming an excellent means of local transport.
See Amsterdam from a boat will offer you the most beautiful view imaginable.
Amsterdam's must-sees: rent a bike to explore the city
Visit bikeYou can see so much in less time than if you had to walk.
Some people think that the only way to really discover Amsterdam is by bike. Amsterdam is a cycling city. They are literally everywhere. Cyclists are highly respected. In general, you'll feel safe on your bike in this city.
I recommend renting a bike during your stay. Find out more about renting a bike in Amsterdam, I'll let you read the article I wrote here!
Discover the story of Anne Frank
One of Amsterdam's most famous stories is, of course, that of Anne Frank. Anne is one of the most talked-about Jewish victims of the Holocaust, and her former hiding place is one of Amsterdam's most popular monuments.
Anne and her family hid in a secret annex above her father's business on Westermarkt from 1942 to 1944, when they were discovered. Visit Anne Frank Houseas it is now called, has been transformed into a museum that you can visit in Amsterdam.
Amsterdam must-sees: enjoy the Albert Cuyp market
The Albert Cuyp Market is an open-air market selling everything from fish and waffles to clothes and souvenirs. Locals call it Albert Cuypmarkt and has been around since 1905.
Grab a coffee and a snack at one of the stands and spend an hour or two browsing all the products. It's fun to and do your shopping in the open air.
When you've finished, head for the Heineken Experience. It's about a 3-minute walk and one of the most popular things to do in Amsterdam.
Enjoy a room with a view of the Canal
Wherever you stay, you absolutely must stay in a room with a canal view. Waking up in the morning to the most stereotypically unique views in Amsterdam is the best way to start your day.
You can watch dozens of people pass by your window on their bikes. There are also trucks unloading food and other things in restaurants and parents taking their children to school. It's a really great experience!
Amsterdam must-sees: visit the red light district
De Wallen, better known as Red Light DistrictThe Red Light District is the oldest part of the city. The name "Red Light District" comes from the red lights that illuminate the windows where the prostitutes work.
You can visit it on your own by walking down this street, but I recommend arranging a tour so you can learn more about the history of sex work and the red light district with a professional and knowledgeable guide.
The Red Light District is an important part of Amsterdam's history and development, and is well worth a visit.
