The narrow building can be identified by the banana sign on its façade. It also features illustrations of women in erotic poses on the building's windows. The location is in the red-light district.
Banana Bar is not only the most famous adult bar in Amsterdam's red light district, but also the best located.
If you're looking to share an evening with a partner or something more, intimate, with a friend or two, then this might not be the place for you. The venue generally welcomes the curious as well as stag parties.

The oldest and best-known part of the Banana Bar is the bar itself. The bar is not set up like a typical Amsterdam venue. There's no stage with performers.
The waitresses are in charge of the entertainment. They move between the tables and serve free drinks, but extra costs apply when they're asked to do the show.
They are the bar's main attraction. Several "shows" are on offer, from the famous banana tricks to shows involving massage oil or vibrators.
Club Banana: a more typical scene
A recent addition to the Banana Bar is the Banana Club. A strip club built in a more familiar style.
Here you'll find a pole dancing area where strippers dance and perform for the public.
On site, you can ask for :
- Dance hubs
- Table dances
- Lap dances
Another place to party
You can also order drinks from them. However, unlike the Banana Bar, drinks here have to be paid for.
The Banana Club is much more relaxed than the bar, and more suited to mixed groups, as well as small groups or couples looking for a little entertainment.
Admission is also cheaper. But you may find that with drinks and dances billed separately, you'll end up paying as much as you would for an hour at the Banana Bar.
Banana Bar in Amsterdam: how much does it cost?
Admission to the Banana Bar is €50 for one person for one hour. This price includes unlimited drinks.
Each requested turn will incur an additional cost, which can be as high as the entrance fee.
Once the hour is up, customers are called and asked to leave. You can always choose to pay again and stay for another hour.
Admission to the Banana Club is €10, and you can stay as long as you like. However, you'll have to pay, you have to order drinks while you're there.
What are the opening hours?
Amsterdam's Banana bar opens :
- Every day 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.
On Fridays and Saturdays, it usually opens an extra hour.
