The Amsterdam museum card: at a glance
Under the new rules, only Dutch residents may use the national museum map (museumkaart) for one year after registering it online.
For tourists, the temporary card expires after 31 days or 5 museum visits. It does, however, enable you to make substantial savings on museum admission.
How much does a museum pass cost in Amsterdam?
The Museumkaart costs :
- 64,90 € for adults
- 32,45 € for teenagers up to 18
It's a real bargain for museum lovers. With the new rule of 5 museum visits maximum, the temporary Museumkaart saves you even more money during your stay.
However, you can choose other VIP cards that also give you significant benefits on your visits. Since July 2018, the I Amsterdam Card or the Amsterdam Holland Pass are great options for tourists!
How do I get a museum card?
The Museumkaart is available at most museums in Amsterdam. You can also order it at Amsterdams Uitburo, or thetourism officelocated in Leidseplein.
It's very easy to acquire. All you have to do is fill in a form and the card is ready for use. People living in the Netherlands can buy the card online. They have the advantage that the card is valid for one year.
What are the advantages and disadvantages?
With the Amsterdam Museum Card, you can visit five museums in the Netherlands. You don't have to stay in Amsterdam. In fact, the museums can be located in any city in the Netherlands.
However, public transport is not included in the Museumkaart. You cannot :
- Participate in free canal cruises
- Take advantage of free public transport
- Bike rental
- Enjoy discounts in restaurants and stores
