The different types of GVB transport
- 5 lines metro They serve the city from west to east and from north to south. 39 stations in the city, of which only 9 are underground.
- 15 lines streetcar They serve the whole city, with the exception of Amsterdam Nord. There are 500 streetcar stations in and around Amsterdam 200km rails. Opening hours
Metro: subways run between 6am and 12:30am every day, with departures every 7 minutes.
Streetcar: streetcars run between 6am and 12:30am every day, with departures every 10 minutes.
Historic streetcar: historic streetcars run only during the tourist season. There are departures every 30min from 11am to 5pm. Some parts of the route are not served by regular service.
Ferries: F3 runs 24 hours a day. The F4 runs between 7am and 11.45pm. F5 is a night ferry.
Bus: regular buses run from 6am to 12:30pm. A second shift covers the whole night.
Rates
Recently, the cheapest way to pay for transport in the city center is to use the contactless payment ! The basic fare is €1.08, then €0.196 per km. One bank card (Maestro, Mastercard, Visa or bancontact) per person is required.
