Amsterdam has only one major casino offering table games and slot machines: the Holland Casino.
There are currently 14 casinos in this group, spread across the Netherlands.
Holland Casino holds a legal monopoly on full-service casinos in the Netherlands.
Let's discover this playground together.
Holland casino Amsterdam: article summary
How to get into Holland casino from Amsterdam
The legal age for entering a casino in the Netherlands is 18. A fee of 5 euros are charged for each visit. Your hotel may be partnered with this casino.
In this case, they can issue you with a free entry voucher to cover the 5 euros you'll be asked to pay on entering the establishment. If you'd like to take a trip to the casino, I'd advise you to ask at your theme's reception desk.
Where is this gaming establishment located?
The casino is located along the outermost belt of canals. If you don't know what I mean, the canals of Amsterdam's historic center are laid out like half a wheel, with five concentric half-rings and four spokes.
The entrance is at the eastern end of the Vondelpark and just a few steps from the RijksmuseumAmsterdam's famous art museum. This part of Amsterdam seems to attract an older clientele with theaters, museums and high-end boutiques.
What can you see inside the casino?
Past the doormen, the building is large, open and modern. There are two floors, the lower reserved for slot machines and the upper mainly for table games, but with more slot machines around the edges.
Both floors are well-appointed, but the top floor with the tables seems much more elegant and fun.
What games does Holland Casino Amsterdam offer?
On site, the establishment boasts a number of :
- Roulette wheel
- Blackjack
- Texas Hold'em
- Baccara
Contrary to popular belief, most of these games are very simple. All you need to do is a few minutes to adapt to each one.
The roulette wheel
French rules apply to this game. A wheel has a single zero, and the player only loses half his bets if the ball lands on that zero. So you can win big if you choose the right numbers and avoid that black box.
Baccarat
The baccarat tables followed a rarely seen commission-free rule whereby a winning banker on a total of 5 pays 1 to 2. This is a better value than conventional baccarat, reducing the house advantage. Enough to make capital gains on your bets.
Holland casino in Amsterdam: play Keno
There are a few keno games in the smoking section on the second floor only. These are Extra Draw Keno, but only gave two extra balls for the extra bet.
Stopping at a slot machine
According to the Holland Casino website, "slot machines" pay an average of 92 % of the money wagered. It doesn't say how a "slot machine" is defined, but in the industry, a slot machine is pretty much anything with an electrical outlet, as opposed to table games with a live dealer.
Spending an evening or afternoon at Amsterdam's Holland casino is an experience I'd recommend you make during your trip. However, I'd also advise you to be careful with the gambling. Take only a small amount of money with you, and stick to betting it. For example, you'll avoid losing too much money.
