Museumplein is Amsterdam's most important square, and home to several famous museums.
This is where you'll find the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, both of which are visited by dozens of tourists every day.

Museumplein is a leafy square where people sit, read books and spend time with their pets and loved ones.
There's a large ornamental pool in the center. People can put their feet in it and cool off in hot weather. This pool serves as skating rink in winter.
Museumplein is a real gathering place, but it's also one of the city's must-see spots. You'll find Amsterdam's biggest museums around this square.
How do I get there?
There are plenty of options for getting to Museumplein. The square is 500 meters from Vondelpark.
To get there, you can take :
- Visit streetcars 3, 5, 12 and 16 south of the square
- Streetcars 2 and 5 Buses 170, 172, 174, 197, and N97 to the north of the square
- Visit bus 754 and 758
Museumplein: the Rijksmuseum
This museum, perhaps Amsterdam's most famous, needs no introduction. During your visit, you won't want to miss the Rijksmuseum. On site, many works by famous painters are on display. You can see the famous paintings :
- Rembrandt's Night Watch
- The Milkmaid by Johannes Vermeer
- The Bridge by George Hendrik Breitner
This museum is huge. So I'd advise you to decide which exhibits and works you want to see before you get there. If you want to see the whole museum, you must allow for a full day's visit.
The Moco Museum
The museum Moco is one of the Museumplein's modern art museums. The creative works on display include works by Andy Warhol and Banksy.
The museum is famous in the UK for its anti-war murals. The museum can be visited daily.
Museumplein: the Van Gogh Museum
One of Amsterdam's most famous artists is Van Gogh. That's why you can find the Van Gogh Museum on Museumplein.
There can be a long queue at the entrance. If you have an I Amsterdam Card, go directly to the Van Gogh Museum and queue in the section reserved for cardholders.
You can also book your ticket online to visit the site before anyone else. What you need save time on your stay in Amsterdam.
Visit Van Gogh Museum is a place where you can see the originals of many of Vincent Van Gogh's famous paintings. You'll also discover objects that once belonged to the artist.
The Stedelijk Museum
This museum is also closely linked to a historic building. Located next to the Van Gogh Museum, this art museum offers permanent and temporary exhibitions.
This museum is a must-see on your trip to Amsterdam. That's why I advise you to pay a little attention and discover the works he exhibits.
Museumplein: the I Amsterdam panel
The famous I Amsterdam sign stands behind the Rijksmuseum on Museumplein. I Amsterdam has become a physical icon of the city of Amsterdam.
Very few people come here and don't take a photo with the I Amsterdam sign, which measures over 2 metres high and 23.5 metres wide.
However, I'd advise you to enjoy the experience and take a photo to immortalize your time in the city.
