P+R Amsterdam: the cheapest way to park on the outskirts of Amsterdam
If you opt for the car To get to Amsterdam, it's hard to find parking in the city.
It's easy to find parking lotsbut they are very expensive, because the city encourages its citizens to use the bike and other means of transport to get around the area. downtown.
For low-cost parking, Amsterdam P+R (for Park and Ride) remain the solution the most advantageous. These are peripheral parking lots, mostly located along the A-10.
These are designated parking areas for residentsIn this way, they can drop off their car in the morning, drive to the center of Amsterdam (for work or pleasure) and pick it up later, without breaking the bank.
You can enjoy from 6 euros for 24 hours' parking ! Below, I'll explain how this practical P+R system works, and how it can make your life easier when you're on the move. visit Amsterdam.
How does P+R work in Amsterdam?
Amsterdam's P+Rs are discount parking lotswhich surround the central area of the capital. To make the most of them, just follow these simple rules:
- You need to make a round trip car park/town center public transport (Bus, tramway, metroetc.)
- To benefit from reduced rates, you must use a transport card (like OV-Chipkaart), a ticket purchased at GVB terminals or GVB P+R ticket which you will find in the parking lots
- You have to come back from the city center to benefit from P+R rates.
- Pay as much as you can for parking 1 hour after your last public transport journey
Under these conditions, you can pay a modest sum to park in Amsterdam. All you have to do is scan the ticket at the terminal in the parking lot on your return, then pay the required amount.
On the other hand, if you don't respect them, the bill can be very steep and exceed 200 euros! Make sure you take all the necessary steps to avoid unpleasant surprises of this kind!
Please note that since 2024, the blue GVB P+R ticket machines have been removed from several parking lots, including Sloterdijk. At present, these specific tickets are only available at the P+R ArenA, RAI and Bos en Lommer.
To benefit from the reduced parking rate, it is now necessary to use an OV-chipkaart or a GVB paper ticket purchased at an official point of sale. The use of contactless payments (credit card, phone, smartwatch) or digital tickets is not compatible with the P+R discount. In short, although the way in which tickets are purchased has changed, the P+R discount system remains in place at Sloterdijk, provided that the new procedures are followed.

From the majority of Amsterdam's P+Rs, you can count on 15/30 minutes of trips to the city center. So if you want to save money, it's a good choice.
However, I'd like to remind you that Amsterdam is a city that can be discovered perfectly on foot, by renting a bike and for a short stayI prefer a hotel in the center, so you can enjoy most of the attractions concentrated there at 100 %.

Hello, is it possible to reserve a place in p+we for 4 days? For a reasonable price? Thank you
Hello! Yes, you can park in a P+R parking lot in Amsterdam for up to 4 days (96 hours), which is the maximum allowed. The rates are very attractive.
Hello,
I'm soon going to Amsterdam for 3 days. How do I go about it?
I park, take the metro to the center and then when I come back 3 days later, which metro ticket should I scan? Do I have to use the same metro ticket on day 1 and day 3 for it to work?
Can I take a ticket with unlimited travel for 48 hours?
Thank you very much for the valuable information!
Hello Marie! To benefit from the reduced rate in a P+R parking lot in Amsterdam, park your car in a P+R (except RAI, limited to 24h), then buy a special GVB P+R ticket from vending machines or via an OV-chipkaart card. You must use the same ticket to go to the city center on the first day and to return to the parking lot on the last day. A 48h unlimited ticket does not work for the P+R discount, as it is not a recognized P+R ticket. If you want to explore the city freely, use an unlimited ticket in parallel, but keep your P+R ticket only for the outward and return trips between the parking lot and the center.
Hello Thibaut,
Thank you for your suggestions and help.
Could you please tell me how to book the RAI P+R: Europaplein,1078 GZ Amsterdam, I can't find it by clicking on the link on your site.
Hello Bernard!
To reserve a parking space at the RAI P+R, you can use the official RAI Amsterdam website.
Hello !
Thanks for the info. I would like to know if the purchase of a gvb 1-day ticket is compatible with the p+r discount for p+r parking? Or do you have to buy single tickets?
Thanks in advance!
Hello Jessica! No, the GVB 1-day ticket is not compatible with the P+R discount. You need to buy a specific GVB P+R ticket, valid for the round trip between the parking lot and the city center. This ticket is essential to benefit from the reduced parking rate, even if you then use an unlimited ticket to visit the city.
are there cabs in the P+R parking lots? my husband has difficulty walking.
We're going to the CLAYTON Hotel Leidsekade 97
Which parking lot should I take?
Yes, it is possible to find cabs in the vicinity of P+R (Park and Ride) parking lots in Amsterdam, although their availability may vary depending on the specific location of the P+R. However, it's important to note that reduced P+R fares are conditional on using public transport to get to and from the city center. Using a cab for this part of the journey could result in you losing the benefit of the reduced rate.

Hello Patrick!
The GVB Amsterdam travel card gives you unlimited access to streetcars, buses, subway trains and ferries in the GVB network. You can buy it easily online, at vending machines in metro stations, at GVB ticket offices, or at certain hotels and tourist offices. Prices in 2025 vary according to duration: €9.50 for 1 day, €15.50 for 2 days, up to €42.50 for 7 days. The Amsterdam Noord P+R parking lot cannot be booked in advance: access is free subject to availability. Rates are low: €6 per 24 hours if you arrive after 10 a.m. on weekdays or at any time on weekends, otherwise €13 for the first 24 hours. To benefit from this reduced rate, you must use public transport to reach the city center and keep your ticket as proof. Parking is limited to a maximum of 96 hours.
