Painter Amsterdam: Rijksmuseum
Visit Rijksmuseumor the Rijks, as the Dutch affectionately call it, is undoubtedly the jewel in the crown. Not only does the museum boast an astonishing collection, but the building itself is also an architectural masterpiece.
Designed by the famous Dutch architect Pierre Cuypers, it is an excellent example of neo-Gothic architecture with Gothic and Renaissance elements.
The centerpiece of the Rijksmuseum is certainly the world-famous painting by Rembrandt : La ronde de nuit (De Nachtwacht). And indeed, Rembrandt's masterpiece is impressive not only for its masterful use of light and shadow, but also for its sheer size.
Other famous paintings on display at the Rijksmuseum include masterpieces by Rembrandt, such as some self-portraits and Isaac and Rebecca (The Jewish Bride), as well as masterpieces by Johannes Vermeer (The Milkmaid, Woman Reading a Letter, The Love Letter), Hendrik Averkamp, Frans Hals, Van Gogh and many others.

The Van Gogh Museum
Dedicated to the life and work of the greatest Dutch artist, Amsterdam's Van Gogh Museum is a must-see for all visitors to the city.
Here you can see the largest collection of works by the artist: over 200 paintings, 500 drawings and almost all his letters. In the museum, you can admire his famous sunflowers, the bedroom, the almond blossom, the sower and many others.
The Van Gogh Museum, however, is not just about his paintings. You can also learn more about the eventful life of this remarkable Dutch artist.
The building housing the Van Gogh Museum is also a masterpiece. It was designed by the famous Dutch architect Gerrit Rietveld, who unfortunately never got to see his creation, as he died less than a year after the project began in 1963.
A huge collection to discover
The museum was completed by his colleagues van Dillen and van Tricht and officially opened in 1973. In 2015, a new glass entrance hall has been added to the building.
The new entrance on Museumplein is simply spectacular, with its façade of double-laminated glass folded in place, giving the whole building a transparent appearance.
The Van Gogh Museum collection is in fact the private collection of Vincent Van Gogh's family. After Vincent Van Gogh's death, his paintings were managed by his brother Theo Van Gogh and later by Theo's son and Vincent's nephew: Vincent Willem.
In 1962, Vincent Willem founded the Van Gogh Foundation and initiated the construction of the museum. The collection was donated on permanent loan to the museum from the family.

Admission to the museum is not free. You must pay :

As with the previous museum, admission is free for children under 18. What's more, I'd advise you to book well in advance. The place is very popular.

Amsterdam painter: the Stedelijk
The Stedelijk Museum (City Museum) is another of Amsterdam's art museums, located on Museumplein (Museum Square). It is the home of modern and contemporary art and design in the Netherlands.
Over the years, he has acquired a vast collection of works of art, starting with the Post-Impressionists. from the end of the 19th century to the movements of the 20th century.
World-famous masterpieces
Some of the Stedelijk's masterpieces include works by Jackson Pollock, Kazimir Malevich, Mondriaan, Picasso, Andy Warhol, Gerrit Rietveld, Kandinsky and Chagall.
In the museum's rotating permanent collection, which displays 700 pieces at a time, you can see some of these works. The museum also works with temporary exhibitions featuring contemporary artists and designers.
The building housing the Stedelijk Museum was built in 1895. Renovated in 2012, the new wing and entrance hall feature a modern design that corresponds to the image of the museum and what it stands for.

MOCO Museum
The newest addition to the Museumplein square is the Modern Contemporary Museum Amsterdam, or MOCO Museum. Founded in 2016 and housed in the beautiful Villa Alsberg, built in 1904, the museum has already made a name for itself in modern and contemporary art circles with its exhibitions of BanksyYayoi Kusama, OSGEMEOS, Tracey Emin and Andy Warhol, among others.
MOCO Museum offers innovative and immersive exhibitions on the frontier of entertainment, such as the Reflecting Forward by Studio Irma.
In 2020, the museum has developed an augmented reality app where you can see the works of Studio Irma in an open-air digital museum on Museumplein.

Amsterdam painter: Rembrandthuis (Rembrandt House Museum)
The Rembrandthuis (Rembrandt's house) is where the famous Dutch master lived from 1639 to 1658. The house is not actually an art museum, but you can't visit Amsterdam without interacting with Rembrandt.
The best place to learn as much as possible about the artist is, of course, his home.
When you enter the house, you step back in time to the Dutch Golden Age. Wander from room to room and discover what life was like in the 17ᵉ century and what Amsterdam looked like in those days.
The Rembrandthuis collection includes several of the artist's paintings and numerous drawings. The museum also organizes temporary exhibitions.
