Amsterdam photos: article summary
Amsterdam photo: the Amstel river
There are plenty of photo opportunities along the banks of the Amstel River, both in the city center and south of Amsterdam (outside the city limits).
Downtown, one of my favorite spots is on the Blauwbrug (blue bridge) near the town hall. Both sides of the bridge offer beautiful views. The north side offers a view of the town hall and some of the beautiful historic houses lining the Binnen Amstel.
The south side offers a breathtaking view of the river, l'Ermitage and the Magere Brug (skinny bridge)Amsterdam's most famous bridge.
Groenburgwal
One of Amsterdam's most photogenic spots is Groenburgwal. Walk along Staalstraat (between City Hall and Kloverniersburgwal) and you'll cross the Staalmeestersbrug, a drawbridge over the Groenburgwal canal.
Stop on the bridge and capture the serenity of the tree-lined canal. against the backdrop of the Zuiderkerk.
Photo in Amsterdam: Begijnhof
One of Amsterdam's oldest inner courtyards, the Amsterdam convent is a very special place where silence is the rule.
The Begijnhof is located in the heart of the city, just off the bustling Kalverstraat (main shopping street). Once you enter the inner courtyard, you'll be struck by the beauty and tranquility of the place.
The Begijnhof is undoubtedly one of Amsterdam's best photo spotsbut be sure to keep the place quiet.
Jordaan and Nine Streets
One of my favorite neighborhoods in Amsterdam, the Jordaan is packed with interesting stores, art galleries, markets, restaurants and national monuments, including Anne Frank House. There are magnificent views from the bridge at the Bloemgracht/Prinsengracht intersection.
Nine Streets overlaps the Herengracht, Keizersgracht and Prinsengracht canals. In the Nine Streets district, stand on the Berenstraat bridge over the Prinsengracht (canal) for a beautiful view of the canal and the Westerkerk, which boasts Amsterdam's tallest bell tower.
Take a stroll along the Herengracht in the Nine Streets district to admire some of the world's most beautiful buildings. some of Amsterdam's most beautiful canal houses.
Photo in Amsterdam: Keizergracht
My favorite spot on this canal, especially in the evening when the bridge arches are lit up, is the intersection of the Keizersgracht and the Leidsegracht. Stand on the bridges that cross the Leidsegracht and you have several striking photo opportunities, for example, the two bridges and the monumental houses facing the Keizersgracht.
Or turn around and face the Leidsegracht (south) for magnificent sunsets. Walk along Keizergracht towards Utrechtsestraat and the Amstel river. for even more photographic opportunities.
Nieuwmarkt, Zeedijk and the red light district
This district is certainly one of Amsterdam's most intriguing. There's the Waag (the medieval weigh house, a building resembling a mini castle), the Wallen (red light district), the Zeedijk (the heart of Chinatown) and a myriad of restaurants and bars, including several microbreweries. The Waag is well worth a visit.
If you venture into the red-light districtDon't take photos of the women in the windows - it's forbidden! A good place to capture the neighborhood's neon scenes is the Stoofsteeg bridge, which crosses the narrow Ouderzijds Achterburgwal canal.
Walk along this street to the next canal, the Oudezijds Voorburgwal. The bridges along this canal offer superb views of the Oude Kerk (Old Church) and the Sint Nicolaas Kerk (Church of St. Nicholas). At nearby Spooksteeg, you'll find a unique view of the houses overlooking the canal.
Dam Square
The heart of the historic city center, Dam Square is home to the Royal Palace, the Nieuwe Kerk and the National Monument. Don't miss a visit to the Royal Palace, with its magnificent interior! The central hall is particularly breathtaking.
Behind the Royal Palace is one of my favorite buildings in Amsterdam, the Magna Plaza. It was once the general post office and is now a unique shopping center.
The neo-Gothic building features towers, arches, a strange gargoyle and magnificent spires. The interior is dominated by the dazzling central hall. with its rows of arches and columns.
Photo in Amsterdam : Damrak
Perhaps the most iconic view of Amsterdam's canal houses is just a stone's throw from Amsterdam Central Station. Stroll along the Damrak for a breathtaking view of a row of historic canal houses.
This is undoubtedly one of Amsterdam's most photogenic spots and attracts many photographers, especially in the evening when the water looks like a mirror.
There are many places in Amsterdam that deserve your attention. In this city, you'll find numerous photographic opportunities and make your trip an exceptional one.
