One of the most charming is <strong>Marken<\/strong>Let me introduce you!<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Introducing the Marken peninsula<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Marken is <strong>a peninsula<\/strong> located on the shores of Lake \u0132ssel (or Yyssel), some twenty kilometers from <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/amsterdam-city-center\/\">Amsterdam city center<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The village is part of the commune of <strong>Waterland<\/strong> and has been connected to the mainland by a dike since 1957, allowing access by car. But visitors generally opt for <strong>ferries or buses<\/strong> since <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/volendam\/\">Volendam<\/a>another must-see town in the area!<\/p>\n<p>Its unusual location means that <strong>from the end of the 19th century<\/strong>Marken has attracted many specialists in traditional cultures and anthropologists, fascinated by this land that seemed frozen in time.<\/p>\n<p>But despite the obvious changes and the influx of tourists over the last few decades, the village has managed to keep up with the times. <strong>retain all its charm<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>You can see <strong>one-of-a-kind homes<\/strong> (terpen), colorful facades often associated with the Dutch image, and soothing landscapes. If you're looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the capital, this is a great choice!<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Facts and figures<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Marken covers an area of 2<strong>.68 km<sup>2<\/sup><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>In 2021, the census population was <strong>1,745 inhabitants<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Johann Friedrich Blumenbach<\/strong>the father of zoology and anthropology, stayed here for his research.<\/li>\n<li>It is possible to <strong>stay on site<\/strong>to enjoy the calm of the area in the evening!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a name=\"2\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2><strong>What can you see and do in Marken? \u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>If you decide to take a short trip to Marken, here are the must-sees!<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Marken lighthouse<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>At the northeastern tip of the peninsula, you'll find <strong>this iconic lighthouse<\/strong>. You can walk or cycle from the heart of the village to reach the site and take advantage of this effect. <em>end of the world<\/em> it offers.<\/p>\n<p>You can't visit it, but you'll get a lot out of it. <strong>beautiful photos<\/strong>\u00a0it's a romantic setting for those who come in the late afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>For your information, you will see a mini <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/amsterdam-beach\/\">beach<\/a> only 5 metres long, right next door!<\/p>\n<h3><strong>The village center and its unique houses<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Marken has <strong>amazing wooden houses<\/strong>You'll see them in the village center. But if you can manage to squeeze in a day of sightseeing outside the city, you can visit Marken, <strong>you won't regret it! <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The ideal combination is <strong>visits to Marken and Volendam<\/strong>by devoting half a day to each destination.<\/p>\n<p>But for those in less of a hurry, who enjoy the peace and quiet of nature, it's perfectly possible to stay overnight and enjoy the area once the tourists have left.<\/p>\n<p>For those who only have <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/visit-amsterdam-in-2-days\/\">2 days in Amsterdam<\/a>If you're thinking of getting out of the capital, it's for me! <strong>the best choice<\/strong>.
