You can, however, visit <strong>Madurodam<\/strong>\u00a0!<\/p>\n<p>This is a <strong>theme park<\/strong> featuring miniature replicas (1:25 scale) of the most important places in the Netherlands: Amsterdam with its monuments and canals, windmills in the countryside, the most famous buildings, villages or districts, to discover <strong>Dutch culture<\/strong> in a single visit.<\/p>\n<p>It is located in <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/la-haye\/\">The Hague<\/a>I'd like to introduce you to its history, what characterizes it and what you can see in Madurodam.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Introducing Madurodam<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The <strong>in 1952<\/strong> that Madurodam opened its doors in the city of The Hague. It was financed by the parents of law student George Maduro. <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/jewish-quarter-amsterdam\/\">Jewish<\/a> deported and died in the Dachau camp in 1945, now a national hero.<\/p>\n<p>This theme park, designed by Mrs Boon-van der Starp, was intended to raise funds for children suffering from tuberculosis. George Maduro's parents decided to finance it, in exchange for a nomenclature referring to their late son.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs Boon-van der Starp drew her inspiration for <strong>this miniature village<\/strong> in Bekonscot, England, opened in 1930 and considered the world's oldest miniature village, and entrusted its construction to architect S.J. Bouma.<\/p>\n<p>Madurodam's first mayor was <strong>Princess Beatrix<\/strong> (who became Queen in 1980, until 2013), before this role was entrusted to students from The Hague, who form the park's board of directors.<\/p>\n<p>The Madurodam park was renovated in 2011, with just <strong>celebrating 60 years<\/strong>and subdivided into several themes, to be discovered today: Water and its importance for the country, The Netherlands as an inspiration for the world and Historic cities.<\/p>\n<p>For me, it's a <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/what-to-do-in-amsterdam\/\">what to do<\/a> absolutely if you're going through The Hague!<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Facts and figures about this theme park<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>It covers an area of <strong>62 630 m\u00b2<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Nearly <strong>700,000 visitors<\/strong> go there every year<\/li>\n<li>Expansions and new zones are being created, with a plan extending to 2030.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Walt Disney<\/strong> was inspired by Madurodam to create his first Disneyland park in California, which opened in 1955!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-285\" src=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/madurodam-la-haye.jpg\" alt=\"madurodam the hague\" width=\"550\" height=\"413\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/madurodam-la-haye.jpg 550w, https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/madurodam-la-haye-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><br \/>\n<a name=\"2\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2><strong>What can you see and do in Madurodam? \u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>A visit to Madurodam is a great way to spend time with friends, family or just the two of you. There's plenty to do, and here are just a few of the famous buildings you'll be able to admire <strong>in reduced size<\/strong>and themes.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>What famous buildings can you see in Madurodam?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Visit <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/rijksmuseum\/\">Amsterdam Rijksmuseum<\/a>known as much for its fa\u00e7ade as for its rich collection of works of art<\/li>\n<li>Visit <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/port-of-amsterdam\/\">Port of Amsterdam<\/a>sung by Brel and a rather chic district today<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/schiphol\/\">Schiphol airport<\/a> Amsterdam, where you will arrive if you come by plane<\/li>\n<li>Visit <strong>windmills<\/strong> associated with the image of the Netherlands<\/li>\n<li>Visit <strong>fields of flowers<\/strong>like the ones you can see in the Parc Floral <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/keukenhof\/\">Keukenhof<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Typical canal-side houses, such as those you can admire while taking part in the <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/amsterdam-cruise\/\">an Amsterdam cruise<\/a><\/li>\n<li>The main districts of Rotterdam, Groningen, <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/utrecht\/\">Utrecht<\/a> or the Hague<\/li>\n<li>And much more, in <strong>25 times smaller<\/strong> than their original size!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>What activities are available?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Madurodam Park does its utmost to make the visit fun, and does it very well. From <strong>interactive activities<\/strong> and <strong>experiences<\/strong> are offered to children and their parents, including :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A <strong>flight simulation<\/strong>to become a Dutch explorer<\/li>\n<li>From <strong>play areas<\/strong> <strong>exterior<\/strong> so that the youngest can let off steam<\/li>\n<li>A themed zone <strong>cheese<\/strong> to find out your weight in cheese!<\/li>\n<li>An interactive journey through <strong>XVIIth century<\/strong>with its naval battles and accompanying cannon fire<\/li>\n<li>The space dedicated <strong>to trains<\/strong>for rail enthusiasts<\/li>\n<li>An immersive country history course, to learn more about <strong>the creation of the Netherlands<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Visit <strong>DJ simulator<\/strong>to test your ability to move the crowd (of miniature characters!)<\/li>\n<li>And many other experiences, which may vary according to the season<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There's plenty to keep you busy while you learn in this well-designed park. The staff are very attentive, and you can move around freely, or follow one of the themed itineraries on offer.<br \/>\n<a name=\"3\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2><strong>How to reach Madurodam easily?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Madurodam is located exactly at <strong>45 minutes from Amsterdam<\/strong>at the following address <em>George Maduroplein 1, 2584 RZ, The Hague <\/em><\/p>\n<p>You can reach him via :<\/p>\n<p>Visit <strong>train<\/strong>from Amsterdam Central Station to the following stops <em>Den Haag Centraal<\/em> (or Den <em>Haag Hollands Spoor)<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>From The Hague Central Station, take :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>a bus<\/strong> (line 22 is the 8<sup>e<\/sup> stop on the line towards Den Haag Duindorp) to Madurodam<\/li>\n<li><strong>a streetcar<\/strong> (line 9 is 6<sup>e<\/sup> stop on the line to Scheveningen Noord) to Madurodam<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can get there by car from Amsterdam (via the A44\/N44, A4) or from The Hague (A12, A4).
