It is a stopover <strong>a must for every rock'n'roll fan!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This music museum traces the history of the Beatles, their origins, their meteoric rise to worldwide fame and fascinating original archive footage of their 1964 tour of Holland.<\/p>\n<p>The Beatles Museum in Alkmaar boasts a fantastic collection of vintage photographs, instruments, musical memorabilia, clothing and even some of the guitars used on stage.<\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"_Toc141054845\"><\/a><strong>Visit the Grote Sint Laurenskerk<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Grote Kerk, also known as Grote Sint Laurenskerk, is a beautiful old building not to be missed.<\/p>\n<p>This large Gothic church, once Protestant, is now a secular place of worship. It stands as an imposing landmark, dominating the skyline of the historic city center.<\/p>\n<p>Churches have been built on this site since the X\u1d49 century. The present structure was designed by Anthonius Keldermans and <strong>completed in 1498 after 28 years of construction.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The church, dedicated to Saint Lawrence, is reputed to house the tomb of Floris V, Count of Holland. Grote Sint-Laurenskerk is admired for its beauty, both inside and out.<\/p>\n<p>The church's high windows let in tons of natural light to highlight the ornate Gothic decorations, <strong>in particular the beautiful chandeliers and the two magnificent pipe organs.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"_Toc141054846\"><\/a><strong>Enjoy a guided tour of Alkmaar City Hall<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>As well as drifting lazily along the city's canals, the best way to discover the hidden gems of this historic city is to go <strong>a walking tour of Alkmaar. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Highlights include the magnificent Town Hall. The Stadhuis, or Town Hall, erected in 1520 and restored after a fire destroyed much of its original construction, is an impressive example of Dutch brick architecture in the city center.<\/p>\n<p>At the entrance to this historic building, the city flag flies in the air. It's easy to see why <strong>a popular location for wedding photos.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Even if you can't get inside, you can still walk down Langestraat from the Grote Kerk and enjoy the fantastic architecture of this ancient building. You can admire its magnificent facade and <strong>its tiny hexagonal clock tower<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"_Toc141054847\"><\/a><strong>Taste the incredible cuisine of Alkmaar near Amsterdam<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>As mentioned above, Alkmaar is considered one of the most important cheese towns on the planet, not least for its unique, historic cheese market.<\/p>\n<p>A taste of the town's cheese <strong>part of any travel itinerary in the Netherlands.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The most popular cheeses found here are gouda and edam, but there are many other cheeses to enjoy here.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to cheese, the town is also known for its herring, and a wide variety of delicacies featuring this tasty fish.<\/p>\n<p>You can also treat your taste buds to a selection of <strong>Alkmaar's famous stroopwafels for dessert.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>These mouth-watering sweet treats feature two thin layers of baked wafers and a caramel topping.
