During intermission, <strong>you can relax in the on-site bar.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Normal-price tickets cost \u20ac9.50<\/strong> or come for a weekday matinee and save \u20ac1. Head to one of the four Path\u00e9 cinemas located around Amsterdam. One of my favorites is Path\u00e9 Tuschinski, located <strong>near Rembrandtplein<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This charming cinema was built in 1921 by Abraham Icek Tuschinski, a Jewish businessman who owned several cinemas in the Netherlands. He died in Auschwitz in 1942. The cinema is magnificent inside and out, with many interesting details <strong>like a pipe organ.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Path\u00e9 cinemas are generally large, with comfortable seats. <strong>Tickets cost between \u20ac10 and \u20ac11<\/strong>But many cinephiles buy the Path\u00e9 card, which lets them watch unlimited films for \u20ac19 a month.<\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"_Toc141694556\"><\/a><strong>The Movies, Amsterdam's oldest cinema<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The Movies is Amsterdam's oldest cinema. It opened in 1912. Showing art house films on its four screens, The Movies is an excellent choice for a movie night.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cinema tickets are \u20ac9<\/strong>with discounts available. A movie pass can be purchased for \u20ac19 per month, allowing unlimited movies at The Movies.<\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"_Toc141694557\"><\/a><strong>Amsterdam cinema: the FilmHallen<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>FilmHallen has 9 screens and shows all kinds of films: internationals, documentaries, Hollywood blockbusters and children's movies. It's one of the city's largest cinemas.<\/p>\n<p>An interesting feature of FilmHallen is the Parisienzaal, which shows restored classics, previously unreleased titles and special releases.<\/p>\n<p>The Art Deco interior, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was moved from the former EYE museum in <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/vondelpark\/\">Vondelpark<\/a> in 2014. This was originally the interior of the Nieuwendijk Cinema, built in 1924. <strong>by cinema pioneer Jean Desmet.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>De Filmhallen is a perfect choice on a cold or rainy evening as you can drink and dine there, then <strong>enjoy a film without having to leave the premises.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"_Toc141694558\"><\/a><strong>EYE cinema<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The new EYE film museum, located across the IJ in Amsterdam Noord, is a great place to see a movie. The brand-new theaters are state-of-the-art, and the EYE presents an excellent selection of new releases and classic films.<\/p>\n<p>EYE theaters also host a variety of special programs.<\/p>\n<p>For those learning Dutch, or visitors who are interested in Dutch films but don't speak the language, the EYE organizes <strong>a special event on the third Wednesday of every month<\/strong> called Dutch Movies English Subtitles.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets for films at the EYE <strong>cost \u20ac9.50.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"_Toc141694559\"><\/a><strong>Amsterdam cinema: De Balie<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>For 30 years, De Balie has been a place where the public can meet artists, politicians, opinion leaders and scientists and discuss developments in society. Now De Balie is <strong>a wonderful caf\u00e9 and restaurant, and also houses a cinema.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here you'll find all kinds of fascinating alternative films, documentaries, international and political films, and De Balie often hosts film festivals as well as IDFA and World Cinema.<\/p>\n<p>The seventh art is extremely important to the people of Amsterdam. Cinemas are places of relaxation where people gather and share an evening in the darkened rooms.
