Banks and offices are closed. Many attractions are also closed.<\/p>\n<p>Many stores close their doors, but not all, especially in central Amsterdam. It's a day when you can relax in a park, with friends or family. A good place to start<strong> the New Year in the best possible way.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-687\" src=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/amsterdam-fete.jpg\" alt=\"amsterdam fete\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/amsterdam-fete.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/amsterdam-fete-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/amsterdam-fete-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"_Toc143344896\"><\/a><strong>Good Friday<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>On the Friday before Easter, attractions and stores open to the public. Amsterdamers celebrate Good Friday with family and friends. <strong>share local specialities over big meals.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you're in town during this period and want to visit a restaurant, I'd advise you to reserve your table in advance. Indeed, some families take advantage of this day to eat out and <strong>enjoy a moment of sharing.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"_Toc143344897\"><\/a><strong>Holidays in Amsterdam: Easter<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>In the Netherlands, Easter consists of 2 official public holidays: Easter Day 1 and Easter Day 2. The first Easter day is always a Sunday, the second a Monday.<\/p>\n<p>On the first day of Easter, attractions are normally open. Many supermarkets are also open. Second Easter Day, <strong>only the banks are closing.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>During the Easter weekend, accommodation can be harder to find. Many Dutch people take advantage of the Easter weekend to visit the city.<\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"_Toc143344898\"><\/a><strong>King's Day<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>It's King Willem Alexander's birthday. This is celebrated every April 27. If April 27 is a Sunday, King's Day is moved to Saturday April 26.<\/p>\n<p>In the Netherlands, everyone is free to sell things outside on the street. Amsterdam is famous for its huge party on this day, attracting <strong>up to half a million visitors.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All the <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/amsterdam-city-center\/\">downtown<\/a> is full of people, especially the old center and the <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/jordaan-district-amsterdam\/\">Jordaan<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The color of the day is orange <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/royal-palace-amsterdam\/\">Royal Palace<\/a> is also known as the House of Orange. So it's not unusual to see people dressed in orange.<\/p>\n<p>Stores and many attractions close. However, you'll be able to spend your day at most celebrations <strong>taking place all over the city.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"_Toc143344899\"><\/a><strong>Amsterdam Labour Day<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>May 1\u1d49\u02b3 is not a public holiday in Holland. However, the day is listed as the national Labor Day. While most Dutch people work at this time, you may find some of them in the <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/bar-amsterdam\/\">bars in town<\/a> in the evening.<\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"_Toc143344900\"><\/a><strong>Pentecost<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>As with Easter, this celebration consists of 2 consecutive public holidays, <strong>Sunday and Monday<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This holiday is not much celebrated in the Netherlands. Most stores and attractions open as usual. However, banks generally remain closed during this period.<\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"_Toc143344901\"><\/a><strong>Holidays in Amsterdam: Christmas<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/noel-amsterdam\/\">No\u00ebl<\/a> also has 2 public holidays: December 25 and December 26. On Christmas Day itself (December 25), many attractions, stores and restaurants close.<\/p>\n<p>Some Amsterdam supermarkets open during the vacations, <strong>especially in the city center<\/strong>. At Christmas, and in the period leading up to it, you can enjoy <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/christmas-markets-amsterdam\/\">markets in town<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In the latter, you'll find a wide range of objects that make great gifts for your loved ones.<\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"_Toc143344902\"><\/a><strong>New Year's Eve<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>December 31 is not a public holiday, so stores are open. Attractions may have <strong>different opening hours, and they often close earlier than normal.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On December 31st, between 8pm and midnight, there's no public transport. Nor are there any trains! So I advise you to book a hotel in the city center, so you can hit the bars and enjoy the evening's festivities. <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/new-year-amsterdam\/\">New Year's Eve<\/a>.
