I'll tell you all about its history and explain what you can see when you visit.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>History of the palace\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>On the ruins of <strong>the old town hall <\/strong>the Palais Royal was built, between 1648 and 1665.<\/p>\n<p>Architect Jacob van Campen draws his inspiration from <strong>the roman capitol<\/strong> and more generally in the buildings of the Italian capital, to satisfy the Amsterdam mayors who imagine themselves at the head of the world. <em>new Rome, <\/em>during the country's Golden Age, which put the Netherlands at the top of the world.<\/p>\n<p>Amsterdam's royal palace occupied several functions over the course of its history: town hall until 1808, then residence of the monarch. <strong>Louis Napol\u00e9on 1<sup>er<\/sup><\/strong> between 1808 and 1810, when the country became the Kingdom of Holland. The latter didn't like it very much, and decided to give him the post of <strong>royal museum<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>After the annexation of Holland by France, it became the imperial palace, then the town hall, before becoming the residence of the King of Holland. <strong>William I<\/strong>the first king of the Netherlands.
