At sunrise, <strong>you'll see the channels start to come alive.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Your first day is the perfect time to start exploring the heart of Amsterdam. Climb aboard a <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/amsterdam-cruise\/\">canal tour<\/a> and discover the <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/canals-amsterdam\/\">Amsterdam canals<\/a>a UNESCO World Heritage site.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Drive down Nieuwendijk and Kalverstraat<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Nieuwendijk and Kalverstraat are two of Amsterdam's central avenues that wind their way through the city.<\/p>\n<p>They are bordered<strong> restaurants and small boutiques of all kinds.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To be honest, you could spend all day wandering these streets.<\/p>\n<p>Take your time to go to places that catch your attention and <strong>sample the delights of the bakeries along the street.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Visit Dam Square and the Koninklijk Paleis <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Visit <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/dam-amsterdam\/\">Dam square<\/a> is a central hub in Amsterdam.<\/p>\n<p>Located in the north-central part of the city, this square is buzzing with artists, nightlife and visitors at all hours of the day.<\/p>\n<p>On the side of the square, you'll find the historic <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/royal-palace-amsterdam\/\">Royal Palace<\/a> of Amsterdam (Koninklijk Paleis). Step inside for a tour of<strong> one of Amsterdam's most important buildings. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This palace, originally built in the 17th century, is still used as a reception palace for the Royal Household.<\/p>\n<p>Other options for exploring Dam Square include <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/madame-tussauds\/\">Madame Tussauds<\/a>the <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/kerk\/\">Nieuwe Kerk<\/a> (new church) or the Magna Plaza shopping center just behind the square.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Amsterdam in 4 days: enjoy dinner at Caf\u00e9 de Waard<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>One of the places I recommend visiting in Amsterdam is Caf\u00e9 de Waard.<\/p>\n<p>It's a superb restaurant on Leidseplein square, specializing in <strong>delicious Dutch dishes with contemporary touches.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I particularly like this restaurant because of the fantastic terrace.<\/p>\n<p>It's the ideal place to make yourself comfortable in the wicker armchairs. Enjoy typical Dutch delicacies, learn about Amsterdam's history and explore some of its most unique neighborhoods, such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/jordaan-district-amsterdam\/\">Jordaan<\/a>!<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Visit the Anne Frank House<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/maison-anne-frank\/\">Anne Frank<\/a> is one of the most famous Jewish figures of the Second World War and the Holocaust.<\/p>\n<p>Anne, 13 at the time, hid from the Nazis with her family and a few others in the attic above her father's Amsterdam warehouse.<\/p>\n<p>For two years, friends of the Frank family brought supplies to the inhabitants of the Secret Annex, until they were forced to leave. <strong>betrayed in 1944 and deported to concentration camps.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Of the 8 who lived in the annex, only one, Otto Frank, survived the Holocaust.<\/p>\n<p>Most of the house has been preserved as it was when Anne hid there.<\/p>\n<p>You'll pass through the warehouse, past the swing shelf and through the Frank family's cramped living quarters all <strong>learning what life was like for them.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"summary-title\">Amsterdam in 4 days: p<strong>eat at Foodhallen<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Foodhallen is one of the coolest places you'll ever eat.<\/p>\n<p>It's a restaurant concept <strong>you won't see anywhere else.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>More than 20 food and drink stalls make up Foodhallen, making it a great place to try something new!<\/p>\n<p>Enjoy Dutch bitterballen at De Ballenbar, sushi burritos at M. Temaki or artisanal hamburgers at <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/the-butcher-amsterdam\/\">The<\/a> Butcher.<\/p>\n<p>Whatever you choose, you're bound to find something of interest. <strong>to nibble on while you sip a cold beer.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Go shopping around Negen Straatjes from<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Negen Straatjes is one of Amsterdam's main shopping districts.<\/p>\n<p>The 9 streets are made up of four canals designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites.<\/p>\n<p>There are <strong>a little of everything in the Negen Straatjes.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You'll find boutiques, vintage antique shops, delicious restaurants and even galleries tucked away in the alleyways of this part of town.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Amsterdam in four days: the Begijnhof buildings and courtyard<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Enjoy the peace and quiet of the <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/begijnhof\/\">Begijnhof<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Originally built as a sanctuary for a group of nun-like Catholic nuns, this neighborhood <strong>is still home to many single women.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Visit a market: Boekenmarkt Het Spui<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>De Boekenmarkt Op Het Spui is a fantastic place to visit during your 4 days in Amsterdam!<\/p>\n<p>Friday, <strong>Boekenmarkt Het Spui<\/strong> is a book lover's paradise in the heart of Amsterdam.<\/p>\n<p>More than 20 booksellers set up shop, filling the area with second-hand books.<\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"_Toc143446935\"><\/a><strong>Day 3 of your Amsterdam itinerary: take a day trip outside the city<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>With 4 days in the Netherlands, <strong>you have enough time to get out of the city center.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>One fantastic thing about Amsterdam is its proximity to other remarkable towns and villages in the Netherlands.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Enjoy the view at Zaanse Schans <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Some people will tell you that <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/zaanse-schans\/\">Zaanse Schans<\/a> is a waste of time. That it's kitschy and touristy and overrated. It's one of the Netherlands' main attractions.<\/p>\n<p>Personally,<strong> I don't think that's quite true.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Zaanse Schans is a large town meant to be a replica of the past. Here, you can ride a working windmill, sample cheeses and watch clogs being made.<\/p>\n<p>The scenery at Zaanse Schans is beautiful and peaceful. Small cottages with luxuriant lawns and<strong> palisades are scattered along the canal in the region.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><strong>The tulip fields of Keukenhof Gardens<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Holland is exceptionally well known for its tulips. And, if you visit in spring, you'll be able to <strong>pick these world-famous tulips in full bloom.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Keukenhof, the famous Dutch garden, is one of the Netherlands' most popular tourist destinations.<\/p>\n<p>Well worth a visit.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"summary-title\">Amsterdam in 4 days: v<strong>Giethoorn fairy tale illage<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Giethoorn is well known as the \"Venice of the Netherlands\", <strong>a beautiful fairytale city of islands and canals.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In Giethoorn, cars are not allowed in the town center. Visitors and residents alike can only get around by boat, in <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/velo-amsterdam\/\">bike<\/a> or on foot.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Buy local food at the Albert Cuyp Markt<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>L'<a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/albert-cuypmarkt\/\">Albert Cuypmarkt<\/a> is a local market nestled in the neighbourhood <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/de-pijp\/\">De Pijp<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It's packed with stalls and stores selling local Dutch food, souvenirs, clothes, produce and other items. It's the best place, in my opinion, <strong>to find treats made on site.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Try the poffertjes with Nutella and whipped cream and the handmade stroopwafels.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Explore Museumplein: Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum or Stedelijk Museum<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Museumplein is an oasis in the city. Relax here and admire the pond and food stalls.<\/p>\n<p>The sprawling courtyard has so much green space, and you'll frequently find locals and tourists running, relaxing on <strong>a picnic blanket or enjoy a quick bite.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Around the periphery of the open park, just a few steps away, are some of Amsterdam's most popular museums.<\/p>\n<p>Enter a museum to find a new appreciation of art. The most popular are the <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/rijksmuseum\/\">Rijksmuseum<\/a> and the<a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/van-gogh-museum\/\"> Van Gogh museum<\/a>a museum dedicated to the life and work of Vincent Van Gogh, both just a stone's throw from Museumplein.<\/p>\n<p>You can also visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/stedelijk-museum\/\">Stedelijk Museum<\/a> nearby!<\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"_Toc143446936\"><\/a><strong>Day 4 in Amsterdam: end your stay on a high note!<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Your 4 days in Amsterdam are coming to an end! On this last day, we leave your comfort zone and discover <strong>other amazing Dutch cultural things Amsterdam has to offer!<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Cycling through the Vondelpark<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>One of the most Dutch things to do in Amsterdam is to cycle.<\/p>\n<p>To start your last day in the Netherlands, <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/bike-rental-amsterdam\/\">rent a bike<\/a> and spend a few hours <strong>exercise downtown.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A particularly peaceful place to ride is through the <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/vondelpark\/\">Vondelpark<\/a>a beautiful downtown park.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"summary-title\">Amsterdam in 4 days: p<strong>n afternoon tea at De Bakkerswinkel<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>I swear, De Bakkerswinkel is basically the best-kept secret in all of Amsterdam.<\/p>\n<p>De Bakkerswinkel is the most fantastic bakery, caf\u00e9 and restaurant, <strong>all in one place, nestled in a side street near the red light district.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Explore the Red Light District in De Wallen<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Visit <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/red-light-district\/\">Red Light District<\/a> is a thriving cultural feature of Amsterdam that's well worth a visit during your 4 days in the Netherlands.<\/p>\n<p>Sure, it's evocative (and provocative), sometimes lewd, often shocking... and yet, interesting. It's almost another way of life. It's enough to spend a curious afternoon in front of the windows.<\/p>\n<p>In the evening, they light up and immerse the site in an intense red. <strong>A truly unique experience.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Now you know how to spend your 4-day visit to Amsterdam.
