It is housed <strong>in a beautiful old building dating from 1926.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is part of the umbrella organization of the National Museum of World Cultures, along with other museums such as the Museum Volkenkunde (Leiden), the Africa Museum (Berg en Dal) and the Wereldmuseum (Rotterdam).<\/p>\n<p>The Tropenmuseum entrance hall is located in the basement. Prior to 2018, museum exhibits were mainly<strong> based on geographic region. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The new presentations are more organized around universal themes that connect everyone.<\/p>\n<p>Level 0 now houses 2 permanent exhibitions. Things That Matter focuses on personal objects related to social issues such as heritage and migration. What's The Story looks at <strong>on the history and development of the museum.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Tropenmuseum Junior (the oldest children's museum in the Netherlands) is also located on level 0, providing a convenient facility for young visitors.<\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"_Toc144028309\"><\/a><strong>The various Tropenmuseum exhibitions<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Level 1 continues to feature geographical exhibitions on Southeast Asia, New Guinea and Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>Levels 1 and 2 also host long-term temporary exhibitions.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, the museum benefits from reconstructions of local environments, giving a truly atmospheric flavor of life and history from around the world. The label is <strong>in English and Dutch.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"_Toc144028310\"><\/a><strong>A relaxation area<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Level 0 houses the museum store and the De Tropen caf\u00e9-restaurant, offering a menu inspired by cultures from around the world. Here, you can enjoy a coffee or lunch before setting off to explore the museum.<strong> the marvellous works of art in this museum<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"_Toc144028311\"><\/a><strong>What are the opening hours?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>You can visit us on site:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tuesday to Sunday <strong>from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The establishment remains closed on Mondays.<\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"_Toc144028312\"><\/a><strong>How much does admission cost?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>To enjoy this museum, you will need :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>16\u00a0\u20ac<\/strong> per adult<\/li>\n<li><strong>8 euros<\/strong> for ages 6 to 18<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Children under 5 can enter free of charge.<\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"_Toc144028313\"><\/a><strong>How do I get there?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>You can reach the Tropenmuseum on foot by walking down the <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/amsterdam-neighborhoods\/\">Planting<\/a> Middenlaan then across the Mauritskade canal.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjouramsterdam.fr\/en\/tramway-amsterdam\/\">tramway<\/a> The nearest station is Alexanderplein, and you can take streetcar 14 from Amsterdam Central.<\/p>\n<p>Alternatively, take streetcar 7 from Leidseplein or streetcar 19 from Amsterdam Sloterdijk.<\/p>\n<p>The Tropenmuseum is a magnificent museum, but its slightly eccentric location to the east means that it probably doesn't get the number of visitors it deserves.
